“Facebook TV” coming later this summer

The company is funding a selection original programs, to be presented in a new video section on the platform and set to be released in mid-August, Bloomberg reports.

Initially the featured shows will be “short-form, inexpensive”, with longer programs following later on. Ultimately, Facebook intends its video initiative to be “higher-end” than YouTube, but not competing with streaming services and show producers such as Netflix and HBO.

According to the Verge, the partners producing the video content include BuzzFeed, Group Nine Media and Vox Media. The programs are owned by the media companies, who get 45 percent of the ad revenue.
