Facebook said they would be creating resources for journalists using the platform, in collaboration with the Committee to Protect Journalists, European Journalism Centre, IAPA and other organisations. For now, the initiative on journalists’ safety has released 10 tips on how journalists can stay safe on Facebook, and according to Facebook more information will follow on topics such as managing privacy settings, moderating comments and blocking harassment.
In a blog post announcing the partnership, the CPJ notes that Facebook has already taken steps that make it easier for journalists to use the platform safely, such as adding Tor hidden services and implementing PGP encryption.
