Users will be able to report articles they suspect to be fake news through Revcontent’s widgets that appear on the participating websites. According to the company’s press release, this input will then be used by the company’s algorithms to learn about its network.
Buzzfeed noted, however, that yeasterday the company’s widgets were still featured in over 20 pages that publish fake news stories, although it had recently terminated sites it used to collaborate with. Revcontent did not comment on specified sites, but said that further terminations were “likely”.
As part of the Truth in Media Initiative, Revcontent said it would implement “several other tools” that help media brands and consumers with “combating problems facing the media industry” over the next few weeks.
