Major tech and advertising players coordinating crackdown on annoying ads

The Coalition, comprising tech and advertising giants, will probably adopt a “technology” that would block annoying ads from appearing in popular web browsers, Ad Age reported

It seems that earlier news about Google looking at including a built-in ad-blocker in its Chrome web browser is part of these plans. Microsoft is also considering including the feature in its browser Edge, Softpedia reported.

According to Ad Age, the Coalition would be required to form “an independent monitoring group” that would be in charge of oversight, presumably to avoid putting any individual company in an controversial position (the antitrust question is already being raised regarding Google). The Coalition is expected to finalise the relevant roadmap in the coming weeks.
