A letter signed by the American Civil Liberties Union, the American Library Association, the Electronic Frontier Foundation and Greenpeace USA, among 170 other signatories, asked the US congress and FCC to not roll back the protections for net neutrality enacted in 2015, the Verge reported.
The organisations call the principles of net neutrality “ the foundation that has made the internet the engine of opportunity it is today”, while the FCC chairman Amit Pai has been a vocal critic of net neutrality in the past, and has already taken the first steps to undo the existing protections.
Meanwhile, Pai was renominated for another five-year term at the FCC, Ars Technica reported. The Hill notes that there are further nominations coming up, as Trump needs to nominate another Republican along with an opposition member to the FCC.
