Websites from opposing political sides owned by the same company

BuzzFeed’s Craig Silverman continues his deep dive into the fake news ecosystem with a new piece on hyperpartisan websites that politically seem to be total opposites, but are in reality owned by the same company.

Two of those websites recently published pieces that were in large part identical with each other, apart from certain differences designed to incite an emotional reaction in the readers, presumably to encourage them to share the articles on social media. Whether the sites use the same writers couldn’t be verified.

The websites tailor their messaging to specific audiences presumably for financial resons, hoping that targeting partisan readers on both sides of the spectrum results in substantial traffic and in extension revenue. “The product they are pitching is outrage”, said a commentator to BuzzFeed.
