Google joins voices calling for the IANA transition to move forward

In a blog post, Kent Walker, Google’s Senior VP and General Counsel applauded the upcoming IANA transition, saying “we are transitioning the IANA functions into good hands”.

The IANA functions, dubbed “the internet’s address book”, will be transitioned to the global multistakeholder internet governance community from ICANN, which so far has been tasked with the work.

Walker emphasised that it should not be just governments, engineers and companies that have control over these functions, but also its users and innovators need to have a say, and that this is what the transition guarantees.

The IANA transition is scheduled to complete on 30 September 2016.

CircleID has published some refutations of the claims made by the opponents of the IANA transition: see for example here and here.
