2016 diary dates to help you navigate the next level of journalism

Last year provided more evidence of how rapidly the media landscape is evolving. As you look ahead, are you confident you are up-to-date about newsroom trends to enable you to lead your journalists and newsroom to the next level?

Meet your peers in the magical city of Cartegena

The World Editors Forum's aim for 2016 is to support Editors by providing insight, ideas and share case studies from those who are trying new things and succeeding in producing quality journalism in the process.

We will gather at the World News Media Congress in Cartegena, Colombia, from 12 to 14 June 2016.  There, some of the media world’s most inspiring individuals will share their newsroom experiences and give you the ammunition you need to can help move your journalism and news operation forward. Newsroom visits

We are also planning smaller study tours to take Editors into innovative newsrooms and startups in northern Europe, New York and Washington and Silicon Valley. These might appeal to you or your newsroom managers, particularly if you are looking for ideas, contemplating change projects or in a process of continuous adaption.

  • Newsroom Meets Revenue: 23-26 May. We will visit newsrooms and startups in the highly digitized and innovative northern European market, in the cities of Stockholm, Copenhagen and Hamburg where some publishers are making most of their reader and ad revenue from mobile.
  • Super Social Newsroom 3-7 October. When we visit New York and Washington, a month before the elections, we will see their “social” newsrooms in action.  What new tools and platforms are being used for newsgathering; how are they filtering news from noise and how are they reaching out to new audiences while nurturing loyal readers.
  • Strictly Digital 15-17 November. Our visit to San Fransisco and Silicon Valley will include three intense days of visits and networking. On past tours we met with Medium, Matter, MoPub, Yahoo!, Twitter, Google News, Facebook, Bleacher Report, matter.vc, Plug &Play, Mother Jones, Watchup, LinkedIn, Pulse, News Republic, Smartnews and more.

For more information about these tours, see our website or email Nicole Frankenhauser.
