Skyfall transports plates at Ferag stand

Skyfall is a brand new solution for the overhead transport of individual items. In the printing industry, at Axel Springer SE in Ahrensburg, Skyfall saw its first-ever use for the transport of offset printing plates. Six Skyfall lines, each with six transport shuttles, take the printing plates from the CtP platesetters to the printing machines on the floor above. Each transport shuttle can carry 16 printing plates.

The printer attaches the plates to the upper and lower plate cylinder of the press. Skyfall bridges a height of eight metres and saves personnel from manually transporting dozens of printing plates each night.

Ferag developed Skyfall for the transport of goods in industrial manufacturing processes. Skyfall transports, buffers and sorts products weighing up to 15 kilograms at a sorting speed of 10,500 products an hour. The transport shuttles can be adapted to the geometry of the conveyed items. Skyfall makes use of gravitational force on sections with a downhill gradient. Dispensing with electrical drives in this way saves energy and operating costs.

Skyfall operates without lubricants of any kind. The conveyor system is suitable for applications in all industries – also in environments where absolute cleanliness is required. Next to the clothing, beverage and food industries, Ferag has identified the chemical, pharmaceutical and medical technology industries as interesting markets.

The world’s first Skyfall installation was commissioned in 2014 by a Belgian manufacturer of construction materials, for conveying and buffering silicone cartridges.

Regarding the Expo, Ferag Director of Communications Richard Elmer said on Tuesday, "The World Publishing Expo is the European platform in the newspaper industry. For us it's a good opportunity to meet customers… We are quite happy. We had a full stand yesterday and I think today will be similar."
