World Publishing Expo now a meeting place also for corporate publishers

There is a constantly growing number of channels through which media contents are distributed – as well as increasing numbers of producers of these contents: We are at present experiencing a fragmentation of the media industry that is by no means finished yet. Whereas in the last years this development was driven mainly by technical innovations, the family of publishers is being joined increasingly by a new generation, i.e. corporate publishers. The challenges facing classical publishers and companies are, in fact, not so far apart: Both have the objective to produce content that reaches the consumer. For this reason the World Publishing Expo this year for the first time specifically also address corporate publishers at the worldwide biggest exhibition for the news and media industry.

For our trade exhibition, in cooperation with Forum Corporate Publishing (FCP), we have developed a special Solutions Day during which the topics facing corporate publishing in the future will be dealt with in a series of lectures. These include the potentials of print products, communication with the customer in real time, cross-media content communication and digitisation of magazines.

The latter is one of the most important topics in relation to corporate publications – as well as classical media to an equal degree. The subject of product digitisation is therefore omnipresent at the World Publishing Expo in order to bring together media specialists and innovators. Thus in a keynote speech, Mathias Döpfner, Chairman of the Board of Axel Springer AG, will examine the opportunities offered by the digital era and the future of publishing. The 6th Tablet & App Summit focuses on the next generation of apps and tablets, and two Workshops are dedicated to search engine optimisation. In addition, visitors have the opportunity to participate in a tour during which they can get to know directly innovators from the inspiring start-up scene in the German capital.

Besides digitisation, the leading technology exhibition for publishing solutions focuses also on innovations in the area of printing. We as WAN-IFRA are convinced that print and digital offerings are not alternatives, but that each has its own justification. The aim is to create an optimum interaction of the various forms of publishing – no matter whether it is a regional newspaper or customer communication that is concerned. The key to reaching readers is rather to create new contents that appeal to them: in a print magazine, on the Internet, in the social web or on digital devices.
