Thomas Jacob, Deputy CEO, WAN-IFRA spoke on trends world over.

In 2011, from a dip in circulation of newspapers worldwide there was growth, he said.

Asia-Pacific newspaper circulation grew by 16% in last 5 years. In Asia, newspaper penetration as only 128 copies per thousand.

"Still available is opportunity to grow the circulation, " Thomas said.

"We have the audience in print and digital but we need to monetise them. Models must change," he said.

"Newspapers must look at a portfolio approach which requires change in mind-set. We need to move them from mono media to smart media with products for different niches," Thomas said.

To amplify this point, Thomas touched on the recent plans of the Axel Springer media group.

Thomas' offerings from media trends world over - operate as an efficient business, focus on content.
